“In art, you go until you've lit up the dark space” - CLAUDIO
is an award-winning Australian composer, producer and performer whose work spans theatre, film, television and immersive art. Her music has featured in productions for Canal+, TF1, The Last Great Hunt and many international screen projects. Her viral TEDx talk, How to Translate the Feeling into Sound, and her role as Creative Advisor to Dave Stewart's (Eurythmics) creative company Rare reflect a practice that extends beyond composition into technology, storytelling and contemporary art.
Based in Paris for over a decade, Rachel gained international recognition as a pioneer of live production performance, opening Ableton's inaugural Loop conference in Berlin with King Britt and performing alongside artists including The Roots, Mayer Hawthorne, Rhye and Common. She also headlined Dior's 70th anniversary celebration at the National Gallery of Victoria.
Her theatre scores include numerous productions with The Last Great Hunt and Barking Gecko Theatre, creating sound worlds that range from intimate dramatic works to modular interactive scores.
Rachel is currently developing GLIMMERFIELD, a bio-art installation created with visual artist Tee Ken Ng that premieres as a major exhibition at the Art Gallery of Western Australia in 2027.
Rachel Claudio aka CLAUDIO
"The soundtrack by Claudio is utterly spellbinding, drawing us into an unforgettable odyssey. Ice cracking, blizzards raging, and the stark cold of Antarctica is interwoven with a composition of wonder, awe, and longing. Every second of this adventure is captured with care and nothing ever feels forced. Claudio seems to anticipate our responses before we feel them, and dials up the intensity in all the right places."
Rachel has toured throughout Australia, Europe, Brazil, Southeast Asia, the U.S. East Coast and the Baltic States. Her collaborators include Ben L'Oncle Soul, Drapht, soFLY and Antonio Gambale (composer of Unorthodox).
She currently serves on the Music Consultative Committee for the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where she previously lectured in Creativity from 2016–2018.
Rachel's practice extends across theatre, installation and experimental performance. Her 2022 Sounds of Sunset residency at Perth Festival saw her improvise two-hour soundscapes to the setting sun over seven consecutive nights, performing with her back to the audience while facing the ocean alongside them.
Her theatre scores include ongoing collaborations with The Last Great Hunt (Telephone, Witches.Exe, Night Night, Whistleblower), alongside The Great Un-Wondering of Wilbur Whitaker for Barking Gecko Theatre. Her work ranges from modular interactive soundtracks to traditional screen and stage composition.
Rachel's interdisciplinary practice has also included collaborations with Latvian visual artist Martins Dabolins, including To Kill an Empath for Luxury of Landscape, exhibited in a 15th-century palace in Florence, Italy.
